Training and competing in Canada Summer 2006/2007

Written by Tim Grafton - 4th Feb 2007

December 11th 2006 we had the pleasure of arriving in Canada for 6 weeks of
training at the Kitchener - Waterloo Skating club (KWSC) in Waterloo
Ontario.  Waterloo is about 100 kms from Toronto.  The club is one of the
largest clubs in Canada and boasts a long list of former Canadian champions
and international competitors,  their names are proudly displayed on banners
in the rink which hang from the ceiling.

On the 13th of January we travelled to Fort Erie (2 hours drive) which is near the US border for Melodie and Harley to skate in a competition.

Usually winter in Canada means lots of snow but this year most of Canada had
a green Xmas,  that is green lawns and not white ones,  so many Canadian's
were disappointed that the weather was warmer than usual with temperatures
usually above zero and sometimes as warm as +7 or +8.   So I guess climate
change is not restricted to Australia and there are strange things happening
all over the globe.   But finally in mid January it did snow and the kids were able to play in the snow and make snow balls and snow men.

But as for skating on a frozen pond or lake - that was out of the question.
